Villar named UEFA interim?

RFEF President Angel Maria Villar has reportedly taken interim charge of UEFA following Michel Platini’s implication in the FIFA scandal.

The 65-year-old is the highest-ranking Vice-President of European football’s governing body, and AS reports he has been promoted while the former Juventus star bids to clear his name.

However, the newspaper adds Villar has only assumed Platini’s powers, rather than status, and must consult with UEFA’s Executive Committee before making any decisions.

Platini was given a 90-day ban by FIFA in light of allegations that he received an unsolicited payment from world football chief Sepp Blatter, who was also suspended.

Villar, meanwhile, reportedly faces questions about his failure to cooperate with Michael Garcia’s investigation into how the 2018 and 2022 World Cups were awarded.
