Negredo: Valencia need patience

Alvaro Negredo believes Valencia need patience to turn their form around but admits a return to a more direct style could help.

Los Che have struggled for consistency in La Liga and the Champions League, and Negredo has spoken to Marca about the season so far.

“Last year we played a little more direct, got the ball forward more, and this year we’re trying to control the ball more,” he considered.

“We’re trying hard at that and they are both valid ways to play, but sometimes it goes well and sometimes it doesn’t. We try to change the situation, take the best concepts and give the fans more attractive football.

“It’s true last year we were more direct, but we had the players to play that way. If we didn’t have the players and we tried to do that, it would be crazy, but when you have the players its valid.

“There’s having a problem in your play, in creating chances, but when you don’t play well you get all the…I won’t say what.

“But everything is bad and it’s the worst anyone has ever seen. When you want to play well and things don’t go right, the forwards don’t score, the midfielders’ passes fail, the centre-backs don’t defend, and in the end everything is thrown out.

“We should be patient and say ‘be calm and we are going to change things and turn the situation around.’”

It was put to Negredo that his position has changed since last season and he acknowledged it has, but that’s what Nuno Santo wants.

“I feel that way too, but it’s what the Coach asks of me. That’s what he asks for and I have to work at it,” he continued.

“I don’t blame the Coach for me not scoring. It’s my fault and I’m the one who has to score, that’s clear. But it is difficult to score playing so far from goal.

“We all like Nuno because he is part of the team and we all want what is best for the team. We have a good dressing room, young and a healthy group that want to improve.”
