Barca to move for Marquinhos

Barcelona could give Marquinhos a way off the Paris Saint-Germain bench by moving for the defender in January.

Mundo Deportivo say Barca, long-term admirers of the Brazil international, will exploit Marquinhos’ lack of playing time at the Ligue 1 club, as Laurent Blanc favours a pairing of David Luiz and Thiago Silva.

Marquinhos has reportedly instructed his representatives to find opportunities to move on at the earliest possibility and Chelsea are believed to be Barca’s rivals for his signature, as they look for a centre-back to account for Everton’s refusal to sell John Stones.

The 21-year-old was close to Camp Nou before last summer’s World Cup and his agents met with members of the Barca hierarchy in Brazil, and the same agents have flagged up their client’s current unhappiness to Barca.

Marquinhos tops a list of defensive targets that also includes Stones, as well as Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez and Athletic Bilbao’s Aymeric Laporte.

Sime Vrsalijko, at Serie A club Sassuolo, is also on the list and as a left-sided defender, he has been ranked highly as a prospective purchase.
