Aspas harbouring Spain hopes

Iago Aspas admits he is a long way from reaching the Spain squad but hopes if he continues to score goals, he’ll enter Vicente del Bosque’s thinking.

Aspas has netted four goals in seven La Liga games this season but told the Press that he has ground to make up after spending two years on the sidelines at Liverpool and Sevilla.

“The national team is far away today because I’ve had two years without much regular playing time, which is essential for a footballer,” he acknowledged, Marca reports.

“But if [Celta Vigo] are going well and I’m scoring goals, it will be easier [to earn a place in the squad].

“I thought Nolito played well [against Ukraine]. And in the minutes he had [against Luxembourg] he had a role too. He’s in great form and we have to take advantage of it, both the national team [and Celta].”
