Raul considering November retirement

Legendary Real Madrid and Spain forward Raul, now at NASL side New York Cosmos, is reportedly considering retirement in November.

AS says Raul wants to return to Madrid and is unable to make regular visits to Spain due to his playing commitments while, at 38, the wear and tear of a long career is catching up on him.

A decision isn’t expected until next month but he would be able to cancel his Cosmos contract if he decides to hang up his boots.

The Cosmos would like Raul to stay affiliated with their club even if he does quit playing, and a role with their youth academy is possible.

It’s noted that Raul still enjoys matches and is capable of moments of quality, scoring his seventh goal of the season on Sunday, but the grind of training and travelling is taking its toll.

Raul could work with the Cosmos’ academy as part of his non-playing education and as a first step towards a future role at Santiago Bernabeu, AS suggests.

The newspaper also confirms that though Raul has time before having to come to a decision, it seems he is leaning towards calling it a day.
