Suarez: Barca lack punch

Luis Suarez has admitted there is something lacking from this Barcelona side, but hit out at the whistles that have been heard at Camp Nou in recent weeks.

Suarez added that there was a similar criticism of La Blaugrana last season but everything changed once the team clicked.

“We don’t have the same punch as the previous season,” Marca report Suarez telling TV3.

“However, something similar happened to us then. We won the first matches, but the feeling was that we were barely there.

“In the second half of the season everything changed and it was spectacular.”

Barca were jeered by the home fans against Bayer Leverkusen as they toiled to overturn the Germans’ lead, eventually winning 2-1 with two late goals, Suarez getting the winner.

“Last season was wonderful, with the treble, and now, because we’re losing, we’re judged this way. The whistles make no sense,” he protested.

Barca are currently without the injured Lionel Messi and he may not be back in time to play Real Madrid in early November, but Suarez believes the team can cope.

“Everything is easier with Leo, but now without him we must try and make it easy,” he noted.

“The responsibility is ours to work and we can’t think about replacing him.”
