Malaga respond to Darder

Malaga have issued an official response to comments from former player Sergi Darder, questioning his assertion that he hadn’t planned to force his exit.

Darder left for Lyon over the summer and pointed the finger at Malaga in regards to the transfer, saying he felt ‘used’ by the club.

“Malaga wants to clarify, with regard to the public notice issued yesterday by Sergi Darder, that we tried to retain the player by all means,” the statement on the club’s official website began, Marca reports.

“[He was] insistent and exercising all kinds of pressure [and] unilaterally made a decision to leave the club, that he had carefully considered for more than one year.

“It is recalled as early as the first day of 2014-15 he tried an almost identical move, to leave Malaga, with Porto as the destination.

“The club believes there are no lessons in ‘Malaguismo’ when after only a year in the first team, he wanted to leave, which he did, in spite of all levels of the club, thanks to a mandatory clause this summer.

“Malaguistas are players who defend their shirt, or have done so with honour and pride, as the directors and owners, whose only interest is the general good, stability, vitality and growth of the company that is more than professionals and fans, who are joined to a shield by the colours.

“The club will not allow anyone to cast doubt on the honest of the owners or directors in this or other cases where they are attacked with the intention of damaging the structures for personal or spurious reasons.”
