Lucas: I’d retire at Depor

Lucas Perez has admitted that he would shun a big move in favour of retiring at Deportivo La Coruna – finances permitting.

The winger helped keep his hometown club in La Liga last season with a string of inspired performances towards the end of the campaign and has brought such form into 2015-16 with four goals in seven appearances.

“A lot of the squad suffered injuries last season, but I wasn't sad because I learned a lot. [Our plight] taught me to be stronger mentally,” he told AS.

“What I like most is showing my family and friends what I do every day for work and bettering it.

“Recognition from your hometown is also beautiful. Seeing people happy with my work, despite barely knowing me, makes me proud and gives me strength to continue.

“The only thing which really bothers me is that my hometown club had to pay €1.5m plus give up a percentage of a future sale for my services.

“I'm grateful to the board and I have to repay their trust.

“If I was to leave my home, it would have to be a very good offer for Depor, not just me.

“I'm not going to say anything else, other than it's for the club to decide because we all know their economic situation.

“I want to stay here and I'll be happy if I don't need to leave. If possible, I want to finish [my career] here.”
