Sergi Darder has written a lengthy apology to Malaga fans regarding the controversial nature of his transfer to Lyon in August.
Communicating via his personal Twitter account, the 21-year-old insisted he did not plan his departure to be aired in public as he levelled criticism at the Andalucians' owners for “using” him – to the extent that he could only contact them on social media.
“I want to apologise to the fans. I'm not proud of how [my move] came about,” he said.
“There came a moment when I realised that the instability [behind the scenes] was not good for me, and after that moment, I expressed my desire to leave the club.
“I asked Mr. [Nasser] Al-Thani to let me leave, but I could only do so through a private message on Twitter.
“I had no control over the timing of the transfer, neither did I know my [economic] rights were sold to a third party. I demanded to be sold because I felt used.
“I'd been on the market for two years at the express wish of the club. Now I've gone, they didn't want me to go all of a sudden.”
