Pique: Boos don’t affect me

Gerard Pique has reiterated that the boo boys will not affect his commitment to Spain, despite being targeted for a third consecutive home match.

The Barcelona defender was on the receiving end of yet more jeers from a section of supporters, still rankled by his anti-Real Madrid and pro-Catalonia remarks, during Friday’s 4-0 victory over Luxembourg, but he is adamant that the cheers are slowly but surely growing louder.

“[The national team are] my home and family,” he said after the game.

“I’ve been coming here since my first call-up and always received affection and good treatment.

“[My commitment] can’t be doubted, the national team is my thing. I hope [the boos] pass and we can talk about football again.

“We’re changing the trend. The boos are still louder than the applause, but it’s getting better.

“Never will [the fans] find that I’ve spoken badly about this country or the national team.”
