Coentrao: Madrid? We’ll see…

Fabio Coentrao has refused to close the door on a possible return to Real Madrid but insists his sole focus is on “winning back my confidence” with Monaco.

The left-back joined the French side on a season-long loan towards the end of the summer transfer window, having spent the majority of his four years at the Santiago Bernabeu in Marcelo’s shadow.

“I can’t deny [that I still have feelings for Madrid],” he told Marca.

“They were, without doubt, four years that I enjoyed very much, for all that we experienced and all the trophies we won, and that makes me feel very proud.

“It’s natural [to still follow Madrid’s progress] because of how much they’ve meant to me and because I still have a contractual relationship with the club.

“Of course I always want them to win, apart from when they cross paths with [Monaco].

“[On returning to Madrid one day], I’m taking things one step at a time and with order.

“I’m only focused on the rest of the season with Monaco. After that, we’ll see what happens.

“The future belongs to God. My only objective is to win my confidence back.

“I must prove to everyone I’m very much at the top of my game and that I still have plenty to offer.”
