France play down Benzema injury

France boss Didier Deschamps has assured Real Madrid that Karim Benzema's injury is not serious after the striker hobbled off against Armenia on Thursday.

The 27-year-old scored two goals in Les Bleus' 4-0 friendly victory over the Armenians but was taken off moments after he netted his second with a suspected thigh complaint, having been caught gripping the back of his left leg.

“I'm happy for Benzema,” the former Valencia midfielder said after the game in light of Benzema’s brace.

“It's true that strikers who always score goals sit well with me, and he scored two, but he also did good things before his goals, in particular helping [Antoine] Griezmann a lot for our first goal.

“For me, the case regarding Benzema is closed until journalists decide to revisit the issue.

“He felt some pain after his second goal, but it's not very important. It's only a little thing.”
