Ceballos, Betis, close to deal

Dani Ceballos and Real Betis are closer than ever to a new contract after a meeting earlier this week, reports say.

AS note Ceballos’ agents met with the club and there is common ground with the midfielder keen to stay at Benito Villamarin and Betis willing to offer a contract that reflects his growing importance to Pepe Mel’s side.

Ceballos on Wednesday scored his first goal for Spain’s Under-21s and has been linked with a move away from Betis, particularly as a contractual impasse could have allowed him to leave on the cheap.

But Betis are willing to make the 19-year-old one of the club’s highest-paid players on a three-year contract that would put his release clause at €15m.

The intention is to have a deal in place before La Liga resumes after the international break, with Betis due to host Espanyol.
