Del Bosque doesn’t want whistles focus

Spain Coach Vicente Del Bosque believes it would be best to focus on matters on the field, not the whistles that have been aimed at Gerard Pique.

Pique was targeted in Spain’s last home game and La Roja play Luxembourg in Logrono on Friday, but Del Bosque would rather talk about football, not the potential reaction of the fans.

“It’s best to act normally, focus on playing. We can’t influence it but I think [the campaign against the whistles] will be a benefit,” he said, Marca reports, during an appearance on Cadena Cope.

“[The fans in Logrono] have been asked to support the team.”

The form and frame of mind of Iker Casillas has in the past been an issue as well and Del Bosque sees the captain at a good point.

“He’s fine, as always. He was a happy kid and he’s not changed. He looks like he’s on the same line as ever,” the trainer continued.

“In the difficult moments, when anyone would be bothered, they wouldn’t have been happy times but he’s always been fine.”

Del Bosque also warned against getting ahead of matters when discussing Spain’s chances at Euro 2016, pointing out Spain haven’t actually booked their place as it stands.

“First, we’re going to qualify. We’re close to the highest level and we’ll fight,” he said.

“We had good feelings about the World Cup. I don’t want anyone thinking we’ll easily be champions, or that thing are going to go badly.”
