Benitez gets Beckham backing

David Beckham believes Real Madrid are in for a successful season as ‘we’re in good form with a good Coach.’

Beckham was in Spain to promote a brand of whiskey and was asked about the standing of his former team, and reminisced about his time at Santiago Bernabeu.

“I’d only bet on Madrid this season. We’re in good form with a good Coach and there’s an interesting season to come, with other good teams,” he said, Marca reports.

“My heart will always be Madrid. I had four wonderful years. There’s a lot I enjoyed in my career and it’s very difficult to choose one moment, but when I walked into the locker room and saw Raul, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, Luis Figo and Roberto Carlos, it was a special moment.

“And then, when we won the League, of course, that was a special moment.

“I had a contract for four years and had talks with Florentino Perez to renew for another four, but Florentino left and there was no agreement with the new President.

“I wanted to stay but when Florentino left, everything went wrong.”

Beckham was asked about the current star of the Madrid side, Cristiano Ronaldo, and his achievement in surpassing Raul as the club’s all-time top scorer.

“It’s amazing what Cristiano has done in his career,” Beckham said of his fellow former Manchester United winger.

“As a supporter it’s exciting to see what he does, how he plays, how passionately he works every day.

“It’s amazing that he was able to overcome my friend Raul so quickly, because, for me, Raul is like God.”
