Neymar: Messi an idol

Neymar repeats his desire to one day win the Ballon d’Or as he ‘learns from an idol on and off the pitch’ in Lionel Messi.

AS reports an interview with Barcelona’s Brazil forward and Lance, a publication in his homeland, in which he discusses the prize for the world’s best player and his relationship with Messi.

“I hope to grow next to Messi, the best in the world, and one day become the best,” Neymar said.

“I’m getting better all the time and I’m a guy who watches a lot and learns a lot from the best. Messi is the best in the world, an idol on and off the pitch. I hope I can learn from him and one day win the Ballon d’Or.”

Earlier this year Neymar nailed his colours to the mast when asked if he could win the award for 2015.

“The Ballon d’Or is taken. This year the best in the world is already decided,” he said after the Copa America, AS notes.

“For all he has done, Messi deserves it. We’ll have to see if I can sneak into the three nominations.”
