Benitez: Morata? Ask Allegri…

Rafa Benitez deflected questions about Juventus striker Alvaro Morata when speaking to Italian television after Real Madrid beat Malmo.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored both goals in Sweden and AS reports Benitez appeared on Italy’s Premium Sport after the match.

“Is Morata ready for Madrid? I don’t know, that’s a question for [Max] Allegri, who has to think if he is ready for Juventus, because he’s their player,” Benitez said.

“We have a strong team and we have to continue like this.”

It was pointed out to Benitez that it was Madrid President Florentino Perez who recently spoke of re-signing the Spain striker, sold in the summer of 2014.

“The President only talks about our team, not other players. I have to keep avoiding this question!”

Benitez was more willing to discuss Mateo Kovacic, signed from Inter later in the summer, and if Madrid have already guaranteed their place in the Champions League knockout rounds by winning their first two group games.

“It’s not over yet. With Napoli I got 12 points and we didn’t go through,” he recalled.

“We have to continue to work and after two or three games we’ll see where we are.

“Kovacic is a great professional. He has everything to become a champion.”
