‘La Liga Sevilla’s priority’

Sevilla President Jose Castro says La Liga has to be the team’s priority as it will offer the chance to return to the Champions League next year.

Los Rojiblancos have made a torrid start to domestic competition but did get a first win of the campaign this weekend, beating Rayo Vallecano 3-2.

“Obviously the League isn’t as we would like. If the season ended now it would be a total failure but there are 32 days to go and the start we’ve had should only be an anecdote,” Castro said, AS reports.

“We have the squad to have a good season and let’s hope that’s how it is. We won at home in the Champions League and we want people to count on us.

“It’s logical that the priority is the League because that’s what brings us here. I don’t know how Unai Emery will manage the squad because that’s his job, and to do it well.

“We have a lot of injuries but it’s a matter of time and hopefully we’ll have players back to play Barcelona.

“Juventus [Sevilla’s opponents on Wednesday] haven’t started well but no one will argue with their potential. We’ll try because we have to enjoy this competition and compete, and that means getting good results wherever.”
