‘Sporting must learn to win ugly’

Abelardo Fernandez has challenged his Sporting Gijon players to learn how to win ugly following Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to fellow new boys Real Betis in La Liga.

The Asturians fell to their second straight defeat after Carlos Castro’s opener was cancelled out by Joaquin and Ruben Castro, and the Coach is keen for his side to use the match as a learning curve for the rest of the season.

“We have players who lack La Liga experience. Maybe we have to learn to play worse but win,” he said after the game.

“I always start the players who I think are the best suited to play our opponents.”
