‘Valencia can still progress in CL’

Alvaro Negredo has insisted that Valencia retain every chance of progressing far in this season’s Champions League.

Los Che have come under scrutiny for their poor start to 2015-16, which included an opening-day defeat to Zenit St Petersburg in Europe’s elite club competition, but the striker remains convinced that his side can turn their campaign around soon.

“We needed the win [against Granada]. We wanted to get our fans on side after the game against Espanyol and get into a good dynamic for what lies ahead,” he said.

“[Lyon and Athletic Bilbao] will be two very tough matches, but if we get good sensations then the fans will follow suit and we’ll get into the dynamic we want, which is for everyone to be together.

“We [Paco Alcacer and I] can play together, although the decision lies with the Coach. It’s a system we can play in and it’s a pleasure to play with Paco.

“Lyon are very powerful physically, but we have our own strengths and know that we have to give 100 percent in order to get the three points.

“Despite not starting well [in the Champions League] with the home defeat to Zenit, Valencia still have time to correct the situation and qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

“We still have to play the return fixture against Zenit and anything can happen.”
