Victor: No more late starts

Victor Sanchez has warned Deportivo La Coruna that he will not condone any more late starts ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Espanyol in La Liga.

The Galicians conceded two goals in the first 10 minutes against Rayo Vallecano on Thursday, ultimately falling to a 3-2 defeat, and the Coach has summoned his squad earlier than usual for the visit of Los Periquitos, at the time of 9:50am UK time.

“We arrived 10 minutes late to the match [against Rayo], and that’s why I’ve summoned the players earlier than usual,” he said at a Press conference.

“We normally meet up at 11 for matches at this time [3pm], but I want them at 10:50 to make up for the minutes we missed [against Rayo].

“We’re still at the beginning of the season and the most important thing for us are sensations.

“With a good sensation, it’s normal that points are earned. We’re intent on picking up our first home win of the season, which we want to devote to our fans.

“Players need at least 48 hours to recover, and we’re playing against a team who have had two more full days of preparation than us. We need all our players at 100 percent.

“[Espanyol] have started strongly, are very organised and know how to play. They’ve not been prone to making mistakes and have taken points off their rivals in the table.

“It’s a very special match for [Sergio Gonzalez and I] because we were teammates [at Depor] for a long time and shared many important experiences at the club.

“I’m glad he had the career he had because he deserves it. Espanyol are continuing to improve and will make things very difficult for us.

“I’m delighted with the work and performance of all my players, but there isn’t room for everyone [in the XI].

“Fortunately, they understand what it means to be competitive.”
