Benitez: Madrid like a chameleon

Rafa Benitez likened Real Madrid to a chameleon changing its colours following Wednesday’s 2-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao in La Liga.

Karim Benzema’s double fired Los Blancos to a fifth consecutive win and their first at the new San Mames, and the Coach claimed his side “showed their two faces” during the match, referring to their attacking and defensive nous before and after half-time.

“I’m happy with the win,” he said after the game.

“The team showed their two faces; possession in the first half and character and suffering in the second.

“When a team win, everything they think is positive, and everything we’ve done has been positive [until now].

“[Benzema] is a different type of No 9, not just a poacher. His movement creates many problems for opposing defences.

“The team earns confidence from winning. We had 20 shots on goal at San Mames, so we leave here stronger than we were when we arrived.

“[Mateo Kovacic] has great quality and dynamism. I already knew him from Italian football, so I know what he can give us.”
