Berizzo revels in ‘perfect’ first half

Eduardo Berizzo paid tribute to his Celta Vigo players for staging a “perfect” first half en route to Sunday’s 2-1 win at Sevilla in La Liga

Early strikes from Nolito and Daniel Wass saw the Galicians extend their unbeaten start to four matches and move into the Champions League places, and the Coach was equally as enthused with his side’s ability to survive Los Nervionenses storm after the restart.

“We had a perfect first half, in which we played the ball very intelligently. It was our best first half of the season,” he said after the game.

“In the second half, with Llorente on for Sevilla, they pinned us back, but the team played with sufficiency, purpose and could’ve scored more on the counterattack.

“It was important to win a match like this, at such a difficult venue and against such great opponents, after [the 3-3 draw with] Las Palmas, which raised doubts.

“[On the scheduling of the match, an 11:00 BST kick-off], the players faced great risks [to their fitness].

“The scheduling of games needs a deeper analysis. It’s a nonsense to play this time of the year at midday and 10 at night.

“I also found it strange that the referee did not grant a drinks break for the players. It seems that [a drinks break] wasn’t scheduled but was needed.

“[Nolito] is lethal in both an attacking and defensive sense because, in addition to his individual moves, he also helps out his teammates.

“Our objective always remains the same, to win every seven days.”
