‘Getafe will grow from victory’

Fran Escriba believes Getafe “will grow and become competitive” as a result of their maiden 1-0 victory over Malaga in La Liga on Friday.

Stefan Scepovic scored the winner for El Geta inside just two minutes, moving the side off the bottom and into midtable, and the Coach is confident that his side can build on the result with the rest of the season in mind.

“We had some good moments in the first half, others less so,” he said after the game.

“For now, we’ll prioritise the win. The team will grow and become competitive as a result.

“We’ve won the game, period. Now we have a very difficult game [against Atletico Madrid] coming up, but I’m convinced in this project.

“We hardly risked losing the lead and the best chances were ours, although they tightened up [after we scored].

“We’d have liked to have more control, but the most important thing was to win.

“Scepovic did well. He moved well, scored and fought until the end. I’m the Coach and I want my players to show me that they’re all important. We now must be as fresh as possible for Tuesday.

“Emi and [Pedro] Sarabia didn’t play due to injury. In the case of Emi, it was a risk for him to play and we chose not to take any risks. The same went for Pedro.”
