Laporte wants long EL run

Aymeric Laporte hopes Athletic Bilbao go far in the Europa League, but knows Thursday’s opponents Augsburg will be tricky.

Laporte is expected to play after he was rested by Coach Ernesto Valverde for the League game against Getafe and joined the trainer for the pre-match Press conference.

“When we start a competition, such as the League, Europa League or Champions League, we hope to go as far as possible,” he said, AS reports.

“Three years ago we reached two finals and we hope the same happens.

“Augsburg were fifth in their League last year and reached the Europa League. There’s no easy opponent. They can create chances against us and be dangerous.

“We are favourites. We’re playing in one of the best Leagues in the world, in the top seven, and that’s not to diminish our opponent.”
