Favre: Too easy for Sevilla

Borussia Monchengladbach Coach Lucien Favre disagreed with some of the penalties awarded to Sevilla but made no excuses for the defeat.

Los Rojiblancos started their Champions League campaign with a 3-0 win over the struggling Germans, Kevin Gameiro and Ever Banega each netting from the spot with Gameiro also hitting the bar from 12 yards.

“The first one wasn’t a penalty, and in the second, Vitolo exaggerated it,” Favre claimed, Estadio Deportivo reports.

“The issue though is that Sevilla got to our area too easily, so the errors were made before the penalties.

“It’s not an ideal situation. We wanted a good result here and until half time we achieved it. We defended well but didn’t have much of the ball. It wasn’t like a few months ago [when the sides met in the Europa League].

“Sevilla pressed well but it was goalless at the break, and then came the penalties…

“A lot has happened since [the Europa League game in February]. The team we have now simply can’t compare to then.”
