Penalties galore as Sevilla win

Sevilla converted two penalties out of three to get their return to the Champions League off to a successful start against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Kevin Gameiro converted the first spot kick of the night shortly after half time and then had a chance to double the lead, again from 12 yards, but struck the crossbar.

The French striker then won a penalty but left the honours to Ever Banega, who beat Yann Sommer in the visitors’ goal.

Yevhen Konoplyanka sealed the victory late on, although it may go down as an own goal by Sommer, as Unai Emery’s side made light work of the jump from the Europa League to the Champions League.
