‘Villarreal still a work in progress’

Villarreal assistant Ruben Uria praised his team after Sunday’s 3-1 win against Granada in La Liga but maintained they were still a work in progress.

The Yellow Submarine moved up to fourth in the table thanks to goals from Manuel Trigueros, Cedric Bakambu and Samu Garcia, despite Fran Rico pulling one back for the Andalucians.

“We did very well on a very difficult pitch and against good opponents,” Uria, who filled in for the suspended Marcelino, said after the game.

“[Granada] were very strong and pressed us a lot, although we eventually came to dominate.

"In the second half, with the pressure we applied in [Granada’s] half and our good work in winning the ball back, we took the lead and found everything easier until the final stretch, when we let go.

“[Our objective] is to improve on last season, but we must go step by step. We have some great individuals and now must make a team out of them.

“Already having seven points to our name is good fortune, but we’re still in the process of building a team, especially in attack, where most of the [personnel] changes have taken place.”
