Berizzo: Celta must be solid

Eduardo Berizzo has insisted that Celta Vigo must not neglect their defensive duties when they host Las Palmas in La Liga on Sunday.

The Galicians could move top of the table with a win against the new boys at Balaidos, but the Coach is refusing to underestimate his side’s opponents, whom he believes “will cause us problems”.

“[Las Palmas] are a team who, despite coming from another division, have showed in their previous matches that they’ll try to play and won’t throw points away easily,” he said at a Press conference.

“We’ll have to play a very solid game in defence and be very organised in our pressing to make them feel our presence.

“We like to apply pressure where our opponents are playing the ball, but we also like to play where we feel most comfortable.

“That transition has to be performed quickly and safely. We will need patience and movement and must impose ourselves in one-on-ones.

“[Las Palmas] play with very technical midfielders and forwards, who are very good with their back to goal, before causing problems with their movement.

"The teams I selected for our first two games played well, so naming an unchanged XI [for Las Palmas from our last game] wouldn’t be strange.

“We’re facing a team who will cause us problems, so we must feel comfortable on the pitch. I have no reasons to suggest that we haven’t prepared well for this match.

“[On Levy Madinda], any footballer needs minutes and he didn’t get them last year, but he understands that he can in this squad.

“I’ve always been clear with him. He's a player whom, in recent times, I’ve changed my assessment of.

“He’s much appreciated by his teammates and I like having him with us.”
