Moyes ‘concerned’ by Real drought

David Moyes has admitted that he is “concerned” about Real Sociedad’s lack of goals following their 1-0 defeat to Real Betis in La Liga on Saturday.

Los Verdiblancos picked up their first win of the season thanks to Ruben Castro’s effort on 41 minutes, despite having Petros sent off just before half-time, and the Scot conceded the Basques’ drought – now extended to three matches – was quickly becoming a problem.

“I’m concerned about the lack of goals,” he said after the game.

“We strengthened the squad with a new striker to find those goals, but we lacked sufficient quality in that respect [against Betis].

“We must also congratulate Betis as they made it difficult for us to score.

“[I’m not bothered by the criticism] as I know the fans support the team and Coach, but I’m concerned about our performances at the moment, despite the good things we did in our first two games.

“Of course, in football you have to win, but we weren’t good defensively, especially in the first 20 minutes, and it felt like we hadn’t sufficiently prepared for the match.

“There are many games where you don’t score against 10 men. It happens, and Betis did very well, but we created enough chances to have scored a goal and should have taken them.

“Except for the first 20 minutes, when Betis were the better team, we improved and corrected our initial mistakes.”
