San Jose: Getafe a must-win

Mikel San Jose has admitted that Athletic Bilbao's visit of Getafe in La Liga on Sunday is a must-win for his side.

Los Leones approach this weekend rock bottom of the League standings, with no points to their name, despite their Supercopa triumph and qualification for the Europa League group stage, and the defender is ready to guide his team up the table after recovering from a thigh injury.

“In principle, my recovery is going as planned. I hope to be available for Sunday, although it'll be the Coach who decides,” he told AS.

“My [thigh] injury could have been less serious, but the thigh is a complicated region. The [international] break has been good [for my recovery].

“Football injuries are very common, and we've suffered many. Everyone's different and they are difficult things to manage, but the team have maintained their level [in light of the absences].

“Our start to the season should be viewed positively, despite two defeats. August was very difficult, with so many matches. It was non-stop, but we like being in Europe and had enough players to deal with it.

“Both teams are obliged to win. Having no points is difficult, so picking up three on Sunday would be ideal.

“[Raul Garcia] has great enthusiasm and wants to compete. His competitive nature can be seen in training. We know what a great player he is.

“We can feel [the boos] from outside, although I personally know [Gerard Pique].

“I don't want anybody to boo him. I consider [the boos] unfair, but fans are free to express themselves and we can't do anything about that.

“[Getafe] are a dangerous team. It will be a tricky game as we both arrive with zero points to our name but with better feelings than what meets the eye.”
