FIFA in new Barca investigation?

A report from Spain has suggested FIFA have again been looking into the registrations of some of Barcelona’s under-18 players.

AS say that almost two years on from the first time the Catalans were notified by the governing body of concerns over teenagers from abroad on their books, there’s a possibility that further punishment is forthcoming.

Barca were in November 2013 given 90 days to correct irregularities and then in April 2014 placed under a transfer embargo for two transfer windows, starting in January 2015, AS recall.

AS claim there have until recently been players on Barca’s books that were not covered by the previous sanction and FIFA asked for more information about them.

Five young players have recently been released by Barca and AS suggest two of them, Fode Fofana and Matias Lacava, were not included in the original 31 players FIFA on whom FIFA requested more information.

AS add that their release may be a sign that Barca are attempting to pre-empt any further action from FIFA for violating Article 19 of FIFA’s regulations on transfers and registrations.

The newspaper also says FIFA have suspicions Barca didn’t present the full documentation to them and didn’t cooperate in full.

Marca, meanwhile, hint that FIFA are unhappy Barca still signed players this summer – Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan – despite being under an embargo.

The pair, bought from Sevilla and Atletico Madrid respectively, were free to join Barca but can’t be registered until the embargo is lifted in January 2016.
