Del Bosque: Spain are focused

Vicente Del Bosque believes Spain are focused on Euro 2016 qualification after some of his players were affected by the ‘noise’ of the transfer window.

Del Bosque has been interviewed by ABC Deportes prior to the double-header with Slovakia and Macedonia and touched on a number of topics.

“The truth is, in all the games and the years I’ve been here, there’s never been a situation of the players behaving badly or training poorly,” the Coach commented.

“There’s always a great response in all sessions and all training camps. There’s never been a problem. The team is focused on these two games.

“It’s normal there’s a lot of attention. Football generates a lot of news and we want to be open to the media.

“This squad is right after the transfer window, which always makes a lot of noise when it closes. But I don’t think it’s a distraction.

“I haven’t spoken to David De Gea. We’ll give good advice and he’s mature and has a great future. He’s at a great club and this is an episode that has to be resolved. Nothing more.

“[After saying De Gea has to play for his club to keep his Spain place] I wanted to emphasise something that was obvious. If you’re not playing, not active…Why think about a problem that doesn’t exist?”

Del Bosque added that Spain always play in front of big crowds and doesn’t expect Gerard Pique to get a negative reaction from Saturday’s hosts, Oviedo.

“Wherever we go the affection is extraordinary. It was full last time in Leon and it’s full this time,” he continued.

“Pique is well-trained, mature and comfortable with the situation. He’s got almost 100 caps and he played for the youth teams. He’s always been eager and enthusiastic. I don’t know if there’ll be a repeat but the more we talk about it, the worse it is.”
