Pedro Rodriguez has revealed that Andres Iniesta played a key role in pushing through his transfer from Barcelona to Chelsea.
The winger long maintained a desire to leave Camp Nou in search of regular game time elsewhere, and he explained in the second of a two-part interview with Marca how the captain acted as a mediator in his wishes being met.
“Perhaps the most important thing for me was that I had Andres to confide in when there seemed no way out,” he said.
“I explained my situation to him. At first, it was difficult and I had to wait.
“He supported me and tried to convey to the club that if I was not happy then they should do everything to facilitate my departure.
“He acted like the great captain and friend he is. I spoke to him the most as he understood my situation the best.
“I also explained my situation to colleagues with whom I had most confidence in; Andres, Jordi Alba and [Sergio] Busquets.
“They understood my position. [Xavi Hernandez] also called to congratulate me when everything was completed.”
