De Gea to be offered new deal?

It’s suggested that Manchester United will offer David De Gea a new contract but the goalkeeper still wants to play for Real Madrid.

De Gea’s move to Santiago Bernabeu collapsed on Monday night, with Madrid blaming United and United blaming Madrid.

AS and Marca both report De Gea and United are considering their options with the Spain international’s contract due to expire in the summer of 2016.

United could offer De Gea a new contract but he still wants to return to La Liga and in the colours of Madrid.

A January swap deal with Keylor Navas – who was to go to Old Trafford in return – isn’t considered likely as both players would be cup tied if they played for their current clubs in the Champions League.

De Gea has yet to play for United this season, manager Louis Van Gaal preferring Sergio Romero while the transfer situation continued.

It’s not known if Van Gaal will return De Gea to the XI now the window is closed but AS note that if De Gea is to have any chance of being La Roja’s first choice at Euro 2016, he needs to play this season.

That could work in United’s favour, the report adds, as United could encourage De Gea to sign a new deal in return for regaining his place in the team.

Madrid meanwhile are planning to complete the transfer next summer and could approach De Gea about moving on a free at the turn of the year.

De Gea has stressed that his desire to move to Madrid wasn’t financially motivated, according to Marca, and the contract renewal previously on the table from United would have paid better than his deal with Los Blancos.
