‘Madrid promised De Gea €10m’

Real Madrid reportedly promised David De Gea €10m compensation if they didn’t sign him from Manchester United before the end of the transfer window.

De Gea’s move from Old Trafford to Santiago Bernabeu collapsed on Monday, deadline day in Spain, with Madrid blaming United for the paperwork being filed late with FIFA and the LFP.

AS report that Los Blancos made an arrangement with De Gea that said if they didn’t complete his signing before midnight on August 31, he would receive €10m.

It’s not know what the next step will be as De Gea’s United contract ends in the summer of 2016 and he could move as a free agent, although there is the lingering threat of a transfer embargo from FIFA hanging over Madrid.

The transfer embargo would be for similar reasons as the one in affect at Barcelona, related to the signing of underage players. Madrid have previously denied reports of a possible embargo.

De Gea has yet to play for United this season after being frozen out by manager Louis Van Gaal because of the uncertainty over his future.

Other reports say Madrid will use Keylor Navas – who was bound for Old Trafford as part of the deal – as their first choice for the season.
