Madrid set out De Gea timeline

Real Madrid have issued an official statement detailing the timeline of Monday’s move for Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.

The release on the club’s official website confirms the final documentation wasn’t lodged with FIFA or the LFP until after the midnight deadline.

Point eight of the 10-point statement says United entered the information for the De Gea-Keylor Navas deal with FIFA’s TMS system at 00.00 Spanish time.

Madrid received the documents two minutes later and attempted to access the TMS but it was already closed as the deadline had passed.

At 00.26am the TMS invited Madrid to register De Gea’s information as the transfer window remained open for English clubs.

Madrid, however, referred the operation to the LFP at that point as they knew the deadline had passed.

The 10th point stresses Madrid did everything required of them, in good time, to complete the transfers of De Gea and Navas.

Madrid also confirm the talks began on Monday morning and an agreement was quickly reached between the clubs, but the major delay related to the contracts, which were sent back to Madrid by United at 21.43, eight hours after they were sent to United.

De Gea and Navas signed their respective contracts for the Madrid side of the arrangement at 23.32 and Madrid then had to wait for the final documents to come from United.

United reached an agreement with Navas at 23.53, and the Costa Rican was at that time sent his United contract.
