Report: Navas changes led to De Ge delay

Real Madrid’s move for Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea may have collapsed because of Keylor Navas’ move the other way.

AS and Marca report Madrid believed everything was wrapped up 30 minutes before the transfer deadline of midnight to see De Gea go to Santiago Bernabeu and Navas to Old Trafford.

But Navas and his representative wanted to make changes to the agreement with United and asked to make some changes, which led to the documents not being sent to the LFP until almost 12.30am.

AS add the fee for De Gea was €30m while United were to pay €15m for Navas, who had to be convinced to go to Manchester by manager Louis Van Gaal.

Van Gaal reportedly promised Navas he would be first choice – ahead of Sergio Romero and Victor Valdes, who didn’t get his move away – and the Costa Rica international would also have doubled his salary to €4m.

The case of Navas’ international teammate Bryan Ruiz, who in the winter window agreed to go to Levante from Fulham, and the clubs had an agreement too, only to be told the paperwork wasn’t registered in time, is cited by AS as an example of a similar occurrence.
