Navas targets Spain recall

Manchester City winger Jesus Navas wants to win back his place in the Spain squad but knows he needs regular action for his club.

Navas has started all three of City’s opening Premier League games and Manuel Pellegrini’s side remain unbeaten, seeing off West Brom, Chelsea and Everton.

“I’ve adapted to the Premier League and now I’m in a good period,” he said, AS reports.

“I’ve started the season with enthusiasm, playing for my team and getting good results. We’ve got three wins in the first three games and that’s good.

“I work with City with the hope the Coach calls me again. I want to go to Euro 2016.

“We all age and I don’t mind losing my baby face. I don’t want to lose my speed. [La Roja] call me and I run, however much it takes.

“I know the competition is tough. There are very talented people but I will fight a war to return. I at least want to make it difficult for the Coach.

“At the moment I’m playing for City but with Pellegrini, and every Coach, you have to earn your place in training. At City you have to be on top form to play.

“David Silva tells me to try, to play well and the rest will follow. He’s right. Sergio Ramos says the same thing and hopefully I can see him soon.”

Navas is part of a growing Spanish enclave in English football, with Pedro Rodriguez the latest addition.

“It’s normal [that so many Spain players are in England]. Spain are the European champions and the national team players are in the big Leagues, Spain, England, Germany,” he considered.

“Coming to the Premier League was a difficult step for me but I’m certain I can grow as a player here. It’s a great championship.

“Of course I still follow Sevilla. They’re my team! But they gave me everything as well. I watched the UEFA Super Cup final. No luck. It’s not normal to lose a final when you score four goals, but they lacked that bit of luck.

“Real Madrid and Barcelona will be at the top of La Liga but there are other great teams fighting, including Sevilla, Atletico Madrid and Valencia, the other three in the Champions League.

“Five Spanish teams in the Champions League! Five teams competing in La Liga! That gives you an idea of what the League will be like.”
