Nuno welcomes demanding fans

Nuno Santo isn’t fazed by the prospect of leading Valencia into the Champions League group stages. “My challenge is to turn the whistles into applause.”

Valencia eliminated Monaco over two legs, following up a 3-1 home win with a 2-1 away defeat that wasn’t enough to deny Spain its fifth Champions League team.

“In the first half the team was very good. In the second Monaco altered their plan and we failed to recognise it,” Marca quotes the Coach as saying when asked how Monaco overturned Alvaro Negredo’s opening goal.

“We’ve suffered and we’ve been united. I’ve not seen any footage but what worried me most was the set-pieces, because Monaco had nothing.

“In football anything can happen. When you have something to defend you want to defend it and you fall back.

“My challenge is to transform the whistles into applause. The demand of our fans comes in handy.

“Negredo did well. The good thing about this team is we have a lot of variations. It’s a young team but with some veterans.

“Now we have to make decisions and analyse the market. There’s a lot of details to look at and now is the time to do it.”
