Cheryshev ‘close to Valencia’

Denis Cheryshev could leave Real Madrid before the close of the transfer window with reports in Spain saying he’s bound for Valencia.

Cheryshev spent last season at Villarreal and was reportedly told that this year he would get minutes at Madrid, and opted to stay at Santiago Bernabeu as a result.

It was Cheryshev himself who told Villarreal Coach Marcelino that he wouldn’t be returning to El Madrigal after the Yellow Submarine dedicated much of the summer to re-signing the Russia winger.

Cheryshev’s chances of playing at Madrid remain limited, however, and talks regarding a departure have re-started, with Valencia now the club on the agenda.

Sofiane Feghouli’s proposed move to Fenerbahce could clear the way for Cheryshev to go to Mestalla and Jorge Mendes, a confidant of Los Che owner Peter Lim, is playing a key role in the transfer, according to AS.

Cheryshev had previously said that if he didn’t stay at Madrid he wanted to go back to Villarreal, the lack of an offer from Liverpool also a factor in his decision.

He could now however move to Valencia and the switch could be a permanent one, although a loan deal is also under consideration.

Villarreal were also willing to sign Cheryshev on a permanent basis and include an option for Madrid to buy back the player.
