Mel unsure of ‘disoriented’ Ceballos

Pepe Mel has admitted that reported Real Madrid target Dani Ceballos is “disoriented” following Sunday's 1-1 draw with Villarreal in La Liga.

The midfielder, who recently helped Spain Under-19s lift the European U19 Championship, was only used as a substitute against the Yellow Submarine, and the Coach conceded the starlet was not in the right frame of mind to start the match.

“I'm not happy with the result because it wasn't fair. Betis deserved to win,” he said after the game.

“Betis were more intense. Villarreal only had one chance in the first half, which they took, and another in the second from a mistake we made.

“It's only the first game of the season, but I saw a team who wanted to win and weren't content with a draw against opponents who are in Europe and have much more economic potential.

“When I feel [Ceballos] is ready to begin starting matches again, he will.

"If Ceballos trains the same way next week, he won't even travel to the [Santiago] Bernabeu [for the match against Madrid].

"I only do things to help Betis win. I don't know Dani Ceballos' future.

“Anyone who want Dani Ceballos must pay his release clause [€12m], but I hope he'll still be here after August 30.

“The boy's very young and going through a lot. He has just turned 19 and is disoriented.

“[On the possible return of Joaquin], we had a necessary conversation.

“He wants to come and Betis want him to as well, but he's with another team, who aren't in this division. If he resolves his contract with Fiorentina, he'll be welcomed here.”
