Asensio: Espanyol perfect for me

Marco Asensio believes Espanyol are the “perfect” club for him to develop as a player following his official unveiling on Friday.

The Spain Under-19 attacker has joined Los Periquitos on a season-long loan from Real Madrid and is confident that he can begin to realise his top-level potential at Cornella-El Prat.

“I'll use all the pressure as motivation. I really want and hope to debut and adapt here,” he began.

“It's a centenary year for the club and they have great fans. They're perfect for me.

“[The likes Lucas Vazquez, Kiko Casilla and Gerard Moreno] have told me very good things about the club.

“I can play on the wings or up top. I have no problem [about where I'll play].

“I'd be very happy with a European finish, but we'll address our objectives as we go alone. Our main objective is to improve on last season, and I'm sure we will.”

Espanyol President Joan Collet also denied reports the deal included a clause which stipulated that the club would be fined if Asensio did not play 30 matches in 2015-16.
