Oliver: I want to feel important

Oliver Torres says he wants “to be important” for Atletico Madrid ahead of Saturday's La Liga opener against Las Palmas.

The midfielder has returned to the Vicente Calderon this season after spending the past campaign at Porto, and he insists he is ready to prove Diego Simeone of his worth.

“I feel great and want to be important for this team,” he told Atleti's official website.

“I want to give everything that I've got and compete with my teammate to help create a stronger team.

"I'm very happy. For me, being in the lower categories for so many years, it's a pleasure and an honour to wear this shirt again.

“I have a great desire to reconnect with the [Victente] Calderon and hopefully this season I'll give everything and not keep anything inside.

“We know we're a competitive group, one who give everything until the final whistle, and that's the path we must follow.

“Ultimately, we shouldn't expect too much in the short term, but we'll work hard every day to see where we can finish in May.

“[The fans] give us the ambition we need to beat a team as good as Las Palmas.

“We have to do the right things in order to win. I expect a difficult game because it's the first [of the season] and winning is always difficult, but if we stay true to our principles, I think we'll succeed.”
