Carvalho wary of Mestalla

Ricardo Carvalho believes Valencia’s strength at home will be a factor in the Champions League play-off against his Monaco side.

The teams meet in the first leg on Wednesday and Carvalho recalled playing Los Che during his time at Real Madrid.

“I know Valencia very well and they’re a team who play well at home,” the veteran centre-back said, Marca reports.

“At this stage it’s important to play two games at 100%. We can’t go from 50% in one to 100% in another. You have to have two matches of a high level.

“Experience is important, but the young players have to show their best performance.

“Nuno Santo looks to me to be a serious person who likes to work, but I know him more as a colleague on the team than as a Coach. So far he has done a good job.”
