Nuno: Valencia have to repay support

Nuno Santo wants Valencia to match the level of support they have received when Monaco visit Mestalla in the Champions League play-off.

Mestalla is said to be sold out for Wednesday’s fixture and the Coach has called for the players to take note.

“The fans in Mestalla always help us. It’s nice that they’ve filled Mestalla. We have an obligation to pay them back with effort on the pitch,” he said, Super Deporte reports.

“When we’re united we are very strong. I thank the fans on behalf of the club and I hope we can achieve our dream of being in the Champions League.”

Nuno warned however that their Ligue 1 opponents won’t roll over, and pose a great threat to Los Che’s chances.

“Monaco are a great team, with a squad that can solve problems. We know they’re missing some important players but that won’t be decisive,” he added.

“We’re ready to face this game. We’re able to compete. We’re playing the Champions League in front of our fans, who will fill the stadium.

“It’s important to keep a clean sheet as away goals are a key value, but we can’t play only with the intention of not conceding.

“We have to go for the goals. We have an opponent of a high quality. The team will play for everything because they want to be in the Champions League.”

Nicolas Otamendi isn’t expected to play as he is on the verge of joining Manchester City, but Nuno espoused his faith in likely replacement Ruben Vezo.

“Ruben is ready. He’s shown a high level in the pre-season games, where he competed very well,” the trainer commented.

“He’s fast, powerful and gives us guarantees. He’s integrated into the back four and attuned to [Shkodran] Mustafi. I trust him the most, him and every other player here.

“Matt Ryan? He’s a very focused goalkeeper, who has experience. He played at the World Cup. His teammates are helping.”
