‘If anyone can turn it around…’

Luis Enrique has insisted that “if anyone can overcome this result, it’s Barcelona” following Friday’s 4-0 defeat to Athletic Bilbao in the Supercopa.

The Coach made a number of changes to his XI for the trip to San Mames but saw his team comprehensive beaten by Mikel San Jose’s wonder strike and a hat-trick from Aritz Aduriz to seemingly leave their sextuple hopes in tatters.

“It wasn’t our best performance, but there’s another match left to play. If anyone can overcome this result, it’s Barca,” the Coach said after the game.

“We started the match well, cancelling out their pressure. However, our failure to score first penalised us excessively.

“I take full responsibility for the defeat and congratulate Athletic for the match and atmosphere [they created].

“I’m concerned about the number of goals [we conceded] and such errors appearing, but we’ll try to correct them.

“Football is a game of errors. We’ve gone from making the fewest, but this is football. I’d play the same team [again].

“I’ve never played an easy match against Athletic. Over the years, they’ve demanded a high level of us.

“Athletic took advantage of our mistakes very well. After Pedro hit the crossbar at 1-0 down, they hit back straight away and scored the second goal.”
