Del Bosque unhappy with late finish

Vicente del Bosque has slammed the Spanish government for agreeing to extend the upcoming La Liga season to May 22.

Spain’s Higher Sports Council (CSD) recently approved the League’s plans to reschedule a number of fixtures, notably pushing back the final round by a week, but the Coach believes such changes will affect the national team’s preparations for Euro 2016, which commences little over a fortnight later.

“I don’t want to get too far into this issue, but I must say that the government hasn’t been very smart [in sanctioning the fixture changes] because it’s very important that we have an extra week [of preparation] if we qualify for the European Championship,” he told Cadena COPE.

“If the season ends on [May] 22 and a few days are then set aside for holidays, we’ll be pressed for time. I wish the national team were more protected.”
