‘Suarez a 100% success’

Jose Enrique believes Luis Suarez has been a complete success at Barcelona, and talked Alberto Moreno and his Liverpool future.

Enrique has been speaking to Marca and, having played with Suarez at Anfield, was well-placed to discuss what the forward meant.

“You’d have to sign someone like Lionel Messi to replace Steven Gerrard. If Gerrard was God here, Suarez was almost God. He’s irreplaceable,” the left-back admitted.

“I shared a dressing room with [Juan Roman] Riquelme, [Diego] Forlan…no one was as good as him. He’s among the five best in the world.

“I’d love a team of XI Suarezs. Barcelona have a 100% success with his signing.”

Enrique is competing for a place with compatriot Moreno, a 2014 arrival from Sevilla, but stressed the two were friends and colleagues more than rivals.

“Everyone wants to play, but before players come people. I’ve spent many years away from home, and know what it’s like, especially for someone from Seville,” he said, tongue-in-cheek.

“Alberto is a great player, completely different from me, and has a great future. He’s a Spain international.”

As for his future, Enrique admitted he doesn’t expect to ever play in La Liga again, having left Villarreal for Newcastle in 2007, despite claiming to have been ‘alienated’ by manager Brendan Rodgers.

“I don’t think I’ll play in a better team than this. There’s only Real Madrid or Barcelona who are better,” he contended.

“Liverpool are on the level of Manchester United. It’s true we haven’t won the League in many years but we can’t forget the five European Cups.

“I had a good option to return to Spain but it’s difficult because the economy is very different than here. The only teams who can match what is paid in England are the two big ones, so I’d love to stay here until my legs fail me.

“There is only one pure left-back here [Moreno] so I know if I stay, I’ll play. I want to prove that somethings said are wrong.”
