Report: Man City in Pedro contact

Manchester City are reportedly monitoring Pedro Rodriguez’s situation at Barcelona as they threaten to gazump Manchester United.

Mundo Deportivo reports Txiki Begiristain has been in contact with Pedro, his agent and Barca about a possible move to the Etihad Stadium.

Pedro has long been linked with the other half of Manchester, although his move to Old Trafford has been delayed by Neymar’s bout of mumps.

City have sold Edin Dzeko to Roma and are light up front as a result which is why Pedro has entered their thinking, although a more direct replacement for the departed target man is possible.

United have yet to meet Pedro’s €30m release clause, the only way Barca say the winger will leave Camp Nou, and the mooted interest of City could force their hand.

It would also work in Barca’s favour by forcing United to meet the release clause and not try to negotiate a lower price, as Pedro is thought to want to leave La Blaugrana in search of more regular playing time.
